Attorney John Celebrezze

John Celebrezze, is the nephew of the late Anthony J. Celebrezze, the popular mayor of Cleveland who later served as the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. John founded the Celebrezze-Zanghi Community Legal Education Project, Inc. (CZCLEP) as a tribute to his uncle's lifetime commitment to the legal process as an Ohio State Senator, Cleveland's Mayor, member of President Kennedy's and Johnson's Cabinets, and a federal judge.

As a career educator, John recognized early in his career how legal matters impacted the lives of his students and peers. He then vowed to make his lifework the teaching and learning of legal education.

A Promise Kept:

Many years ago then Federal Judge Anthony J. Celebrezze encouraged his nephew, John Celebrezze, a high school principal, to become an attorney. Albeit John was a successful school administrator, he promised his Uncle he would, in fact, become an attorney someday.

On Monday, May 18, 2009 John was sworn in as a newly minted Ohio attorney at age 61. Wearing his Grandfather's pocket watch as reminder of the promise America offered to the family of Rocco Celebrezze, a proud and courageous Italian immigrant, he took his oath just as his Uncle did on 02.11.1938. Congratulations John, Uncle Tony would be proud.
